Description

Peatlandis located in the eastern part of Hiiu County, 13 km northwest of Heltermaa, 1.5 km east of the Partsi-Emmaste road. The peat  formed by paludification, feeds on groundwater, there are springs, the water recipient is the Suuremõisa-Parts main ditch. The area of the peatland is 167 ha, of which 70 ha is peat deposit. The area of the fen peat deposit peat is 155 ha and the mixed bog deposit 12 ha.The peat  consists of moderately decomposed (32%) wood and wood-sedge peat, thickness 1.10 ... 1.30 m, ash content  is 6.5%, moisture content is 87; 69 ha of the peatland area have been cultivated. The mixed- bog deposit  is formed by 1.05 m thick, moderately decomposed (28%) Sphagnum peat. There are 0.13 million tons of well.decomposed peat, of which 0.08 million tons are economic probable  reserves and 0.05 million tons are potentially economic reserves. It is recommended to leave the Kurgesoo in its current state.It does not belong in the Ministry of the Environment list of the peatlands suitable for peat extraction (Regulation no. 87.12.2016).
